Default Derry City Expelled from FAI

The chairman of Derry City Football Club has reacted angrily to the decision to expel the club from the Football Association of Ireland.

Pat McDaid said they are taking legal advice over Saturday's decision.

The expulsion came after allegations that Derry City had unofficial contracts with players.

But Mr McDaid said the club would not accept the judgement of the FAI. He vowed to challenge the Association's decision which he claimed was "unfair".

"If there is any legal mechanism whatsoever, north or south, we will be challenging this.

"They have also told us that we don't even have the right to appeal anywhere - shame on them," he said.

The chairman made the comments during a press conference at the Brandywell which was held on Sunday afternoon.

Derry City FC has experienced a well-publicised financial crisis in recent months.

The club finished fourth in the league, after beating Dundalk on Friday in their final game of the season.

Mr McDaid said the club was entitled to 80,000 euros in prize money but accused the FAI of blocking the payment.

Some kind of politics going on there. Expelling Derry from the FAI would be serious stuff and I'd imagine there's more behind this decision than ''unofficial contracts''.

So who knows more about this?

I haven't heard about any of this yet. Shocking news to expel them. I've never heard of any process that does not allow you grounds to appeal. If thats the cause then they will have no choice than to apply for the NI Irish league but I can't see them being allowed entry to the premier division and they are already short of funds at the moment. I can honestly see Derry City going bust after this.

My thoughts as well Foxy ...their must be more undisclosed reasons for expelling a team from the league ....

Thanks for that Mack. According to the article Galway United will now avoid relegation.........

If any rules were broken the FAI should punish the individuals, not the club.

Thanks for posting mack3m....it explains a bit more .
You would think Derry city would be allowed to appeal such a decision ....but they are not allowed to as they would be appealing to the same people who threw them out the league ....they must follow the legal route and we all know how long that could take .... Time which derry city do not have .

dual contracts i hear , one on the table and one under it for the players...................

i have also heard the taxman is ready to fall hard and heavy on officials and players alike for evasion of payments .

players have until next thursday to travel to dublin to explain the dual contracts. Some of the them were on the news tonight ripping that they are being accused and if found guilty will be banned from playing football in the eircom league.
